Giants to call upon Strahan
The New York Giants are interested in luring Michael Strahan out of retirement after losing Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora to a season-ending knee injury Saturday night.
The Super Bowl champions contacted the representative for the seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end on Monday to gauge Strahan’s interest in returning for a 16th season.
The Giants moved Mathias Kiwanuka back to defensive end to replace the injured Umenyiora.
Jones placed on diversion
Tennessee receiver Brandon Jones apologized in court in for accidentally carrying a handgun into a Nashville, Tenn., airport and could have the misdemeanor charge expunged after six months in a diversion plan.
His attorney, David Raybin, said Jones also paid a $500 fine after his General Sessions Court appearance concerning the June incident.
Williams career likely over
Texans receiver Harry Williams probably won’t play football again after injuring his neck and spine in a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, a team physician said.
Dr. Walter Lowe said Williams is expected to walk again after surgery Sunday in Dallas to fuse and stabilize the cervical spine levels C-2 through C-4, but the severity of the injury makes it “highly unlikely that Harry will return to football.”
