Vandals rout Sacramento St.
Junior guard Trevor Morris came off the bench to score 15 points, all from behind the arc, to lead Idaho, 72-58, over Sacramento State on Monday night in Sacramento, Calif.
Brandon Wiley had 19 points and six rebounds, and Mac Hopson added 15 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds for the Vandals (4-3), who have beaten Sacramento State 11 of the 12 times the teams have met.
The game was tied 11-11 in the first half until the Vandals made six straight 3-pointers en route to an 18-4 run and a 29-15 lead at the 6:46 mark.
Hopson and Morris accounted for all of the Vandals’ 3-pointers during the shooting spree.
The Vandals shot 56 percent (14 of 25) from the field, made 7 of 12 3-pointers and led by as many as 18 points in the first half before taking a 39-28 halftime lead.
College football
University of Idaho seniors Adam Korby, Eddie Williams and T.J. Conley were all selected to the Western Athletic Conference first team. Junior Mike Iupati and senior Tino Amancio made the second team.
Korby, a center, started every game of his Vandal career (47 games). Williams led the Vandals with 54 receptions for 687 yards and six touchdowns. Conley is the nation’s leading punter, with an average of 47.4 yards per kick. Amancio didn’t miss a PAT during his three-year career at Idaho to become the first Vandal to achieve a perfect PAT mark (82 of 82). Iupati missed the first part of the season after having shoulder surgery last spring but came back strong to play a major role on the Vandals’ offensive front.
Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore was named the WAC freshman of the year. Boise State placed five players on the first team. Broncos coach Chris Petersen was named the coach of the year.
Women’s basketball
Gonzaga University women’s basketball player Heather Bowman is the West Coast Conference player of the week for the second straight week, the league announced Monday.
Bowman, a 6-2 forward, led the Bulldogs to a 2-1 weekend and the WBCA Classic title by averaging 17.7 points and 7.7 rebounds.
