Hurricanes down Thrashers

Two days after Ilya Kovalchuk had four points in an overtime win at Carolina, the Atlanta star was held without a goal as the Hurricanes padded their Southeast Division lead by beating the Thrashers 4-3 Friday night in Atlanta.

Cory Stillman’s goal with a two-man advantage gave Carolina its first lead with 3:23 left. The decisive score came with 9 seconds remaining on the two-man advantage.

Devils 3, Flyers 0: At Newark, N.J., Martin Brodeur stopped 37 shots in his fourth shutout this season and 96th regular-season shutout as New Jersey beat Philadelphia.

Senators 5, Sabres 3: At Buffalo, N.Y., Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson scored late in the third period and Ottawa beat the Sabres to hand Buffalo its season-worst fifth straight loss.

Ducks 2, Blackhawks 1: At Los Angeles, Corey Perry and Chris Kunitz scored in the first and last minutes of the opening period, leading Anaheim to a victory over Chicago.
