Free baseball skills clinic offered

The West Central Community Center will hold a free baseball skills development program, beginning July 1, from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. at Cannon Park. The program will run through Aug. 20 and is for ages 8 to 12.

The development program is in need of more sponsors. If you would like to be a sponsor or for more information, call Rick Harris at 323-7501.

Northwest

Audubon Park plans concerts

The Northwest Neighborhood Association has announced a series of three summer concerts starting next month in Audubon Park.

The concerts will mark the 10th year that the association has sponsored concerts in the century-old park. They will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Opening the series will be the Washington Air National Guard show band known as Wingspan on July 10. The Ridlers will play on July 24 and Men of Rhythm on Aug. 7.

Browne’s Addition

Free summer concerts planned

The Browne’s Addition Neighborhood Council will kick off its annual free summer concert series on Coeur d’Alene Park next Thursday with an appearance by Groove Patrol.

Concerts will be every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. through Aug. 28.

Groove Patrol will be followed by SideTrack on July 10.

Other concerts are Karli Fairbanks, July 10; Dead Man’s Pants, July 24; Dru Heller Trio, July 31; Joliene Felice and Siamese Kats, Aug. 7; Community Band, Aug. 24; Simply Strings, Aug. 21; and Chutzpah, Aug. 28.

Chattaroy

Arlene Casselman honored

Arlene Casselman, a firefighter and emergency medical technician, was recently awarded the Basic Life Support Responder of the Year award, given to her by the Spokane County Emergency Medical Council for 2007.

Casselman has been a volunteer for 24 years for Fire District 4 at Fire Station 43, serving the Elk community. She is one of 100 plus firefighters that serve Fire District 4 for northern Spokane County.

Garland

Miss Spokane models wardrobe

Alyssa Fennell, the 2008 Miss Spokane, will model her wardrobe for the Miss Washington competition Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Garland Church, 2011 W. Garland Ave.

The event will include a tea party, a vintage clothing pageant, raffles, door prizes and an appearance by McKenzi Novell, 2008 Miss Spokane’s Outstanding Teen.

The event is free, but reservations are recommended.
