Arraigned Former Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie was arraigned on a drunken driving charge Thursday after refusing field sobriety tests during an early morning traffic stop. Police say they arrested Gillespie at 2:47 a.m. along a highway in Lawrenceburg, Ky. Judge Linda Armstrong told Gillispie his right to drive in Kentucky was being suspended for up to 120 days and set his next court appearance for Sept. 23.

Selected U.S. soccer coach Bob Bradley chose a mostly unchanged roster for World Cup qualifiers against El Salvador on Sept. 5 at Sandy, Utah, and at Trinidad and Tobago four days later. The team will be led by vetarans Tim Howard (goalie; Everton, England) and Landon Donovan (forward; Los Angeles), as well as youngster Jozy Altidore (forward; Hull, England). Former Gonzaga standout Brian Ching (forward; Houston) also made the roster.

Pleaded Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane and his cousin pleaded guilty to a noncriminal charge of disorderly conduct and were ordered to send an apology to the cab driver they were accused of roughing up over 20 cents. The 20-year-old player and his 21-year-old cousin, James Kane, were given conditional discharges by the Buffalo, N.Y. court, meaning they will avoid any penalties if they stay out of trouble for a year and apologize to cabbie Jan Radecki.

Dante DiTrapano, the former agent to New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss, has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of providing a false statement to a bank. DiTrapano, of Charleston, W.Va., faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine for his guilty plea. Sentencing has been set for Jan. 14 in U.S. District Court in Beckley, W.Va.

Appointed Stanley Cup-winning coach Jaques Demers, who has spoken frankly about his lifelong battle with illiteracy, was appointed to the Canadian Senate in Montreal. Demers, a Conservative, is part of a group of new senators that includes an array of prominent Canadians and some of the prime minister’s closest political confidants.

Married ESPN NASCAR analyst Ray Evernham has married race car driver Erin Crocker in Las Vegas. A representative for the former team owner says the two were married in a small ceremony at the Southpoint Hotel.
