Jerome Randle converted a four-point play with 2:13 remaining, matched his career high with 26 points and had a career-best 10 assists to lead California to an 81-71 victory over No. 17 Arizona State at Berkeley, Calif., on Sunday night for a seventh straight win.

Ty Abbott fouled Randle at the top of the arc on a long 3 after James Harden had pulled the Sun Devils within two points moments earlier.

Harden finished with 26 points and eight rebounds to lead Arizona State (12-2, 1-1 Pac-10), which had its eight-game winning streak snapped two days after a 30-point victory at Stanford to start the conference schedule. Harden missed consecutive 3s in the final 1:10 and the Sun Devils were denied their first sweep of the tough Bay Area road trip since 2004-05.

Patrick Christopher added 20 points for the Golden Bears (13-2, 2-0). Cal won its conference opener under first-year coach Mike Montgomery with a 69-55 victory over Arizona on Friday night.

Arizona State had been on its third-longest winning streak in the past 28 years. Last season, the Sun Devils won 10 straight and the 2004-05 team nine in a row.

Oregon State 62, Southern California 58 (OT): Roeland Schaftenaar’s 3-pointer sent the game into overtime and the Beavers snapped their 23-game conference losing streak by defeating the Trojans at Corvallis, Ore.

Schaftenaar tied a career-high with 18 points for the Beavers (6-6, 1-1), who erased a 15-point second-half deficit. Calvin Haynes added 16 points, including four points in overtime.

Taj Gibson led Southern Cal (10-4, 1-1) with 15 points. The Trojans entered the game on a five-game winning streak and had beaten the Beavers seven consecutive times.

Oregon State’s conference losing streak dated to a 73-65 home win against Washington on Feb. 22, 2007.

(12) UCLA 83, Oregon 74: Darren Collison scored 22 points and the Bruins held off a second-half rally by the Ducks at Eugene, Ore.

Josh Shipp added a season-high 17 points for the Bruins (12-2, 2-0 Pac-10), connecting on 5 of 6 3-pointers.

Tajuan Porter scored 24 points for the Ducks (6-8, 0-2), including 15 in the second half as Oregon pulled within three points after trailing 40-29 at halftime.

But Collison and Shipp helped UCLA keep its lead. Collison went 3-for-6 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free-throw line in the second half.

He finished the game 6-for-9 from the field and 9-for-9 from the line, giving him a school-record 40 consecutive free throws.

Stanford 76, Arizona 60: Landry Fields matched his career best with 19 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds as the Cardinal defeated the Wildcats at Stanford, Calif.

Lawrence Hill added 14 points as the Cardinal (11-1, 1-1 in the Pac-10) recorded their fourth straight win over the Wildcats. Anthony Goods added 13 points.

Jordan Hill scored 17 points and had 16 rebounds for Arizona (9-5, 0-2), which lost its second straight for the first time this season. Nic Wise added 17 points and Chase Budinger had 11.

The Wildcats were coming off their worst offensive performance of the season in a 69-55 loss to California on Friday night and followed that with their second-worst scoring night.

(13) California 54, Arizona State 53: In a women’s game of note, Ashley Walker’s layup with 1.8 seconds remaining gave the Golden Bears (11-2, 2-0 Pac-10) a victory over the Sun Devils (8-6, 0-2) at Tempe, Ariz.

Dymond Simon hit a 3-pointer with 8.7 seconds to go to put Arizona State up 53-52. But that left enough time for one more possession for California. Kelsey Adrian missed a layup but Walker got the loose ball underneath for the winner.

Briann January (Lewis and Clark) had seven points and five assists for ASU.
