Animals dependent

The Spokesman-Review

Joel Livingston (Letters, Aug. 30, “Vick singled out”), stated that he wonders if we have become calloused about crimes against individuals yet are appalled when the offense is against an animal. The answer is an obvious no.

However, the outcry is because animals have no recourse. They are totally dependent upon their owner to protect them from harm and wrongdoing. They cannot go to the police, get counseling, move away, or go home to their parents.

Adult human beings are able to make choices and decisions about their lives. They have options and can speak out against the wrongdoer(s). They may not do so but, in most cases, it isn’t because they can’t.
