In brief: Help build community garden

PASADENA PARK – Volunteers will create the Pumpkin Patch Community Garden at the southeast corner of Argonne Road and Maringo Drive on Saturday, and restore a greater Spokane Valley landmark.

Beginning at 9 a.m., volunteers will install an irrigation system and build garden beds with donated lumber and topsoil to allow not just pumpkins to grow there, but also vegetable gardens and eventually row crops to benefit local food banks as the project evolves.

The community is invited to attend and lend a hand.

U-Hi drama presents ‘Of Mice and Men’

SPOKANE VALLEY – The drama department at University High School, 12420 E. 32nd Ave., in the Central Valley School District, will present the play, “Of Mice and Men,” today, Friday, Saturday, and April 15, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m.

The play, based on the book by John Steinbeck, will cost $5 for admission.

Food distribution Friday afternoon

MILLWOOD – Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, and Second Harvest Inland Northwest Food Bank will be handing out food in the Millwood Presbyterian parking lot on Friday, from noon to 2 p.m.

Free produce and perishable products for families in need of food assistance will be available and no appointment is necessary. Participants must be present to receive their food and are encouraged to bring a box.
