Puppy abandoned in trash bin

A 6-week-old Dalmatian puppy found abandoned in a trash bin is now in foster care. The puppy was found Wednesday evening in a large trash bin at a gas station near Freya and Francis after someone heard the puppy whimpering and barking. “We are taking this incident very seriously and are in the middle of our investigation,” said Nancy Hill, director of the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service. “The puppy is doing well in its foster home and we are doing our job of investigating what really happened.” The person who found the puppy Wednesday bathed it and brought it to the Spokane Humane Society the next day. The Spokane Humane Society turned it over to SCRAPS because the incident happened in unincorporated Spokane County. The puppy is now in foster care while it is in a mandated 72-hour stray hold. After the holding period, it will go back to the humane society to be put up for adoption. Abandoning an animal is a crime in Washington. The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2,500 reward for any information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons who abandoned the dog.
