Injured Thousands of fans stormed the field and tore down goalposts after Oklahoma State’s 44-10 victory over archrival Oklahoma, leaving at least 13 people injured, including two in critical condition, medical authorities said early Sunday. Michael Authement, who heads the command post at emergency medical provider LifeNet EMS, told the Associated Press that a throng so big took to the field as the game ended that some fans were trampled and one person fell at least 15 feet onto concrete during a wild celebration by Oklahoma State fans. He said the crowd was so big it took police at least 45 minutes to clear fans from the field at Boone Pickens Stadium, which has a capacity of more than 60,000 people.

Reduced Slugger Manny Ramirez applied for reinstatement to Major League Baseball, and his suspension for a second failed drug test was cut from 100 games to 50 because he sat out nearly all of last season. The suspension would start with the first game he is eligible to play after signing with a club.

Fired Fresno State let go coach Pat Hill after 15 seasons at the school. Athletic director Thomas Boeh made the decision Sunday, a day after the Bulldogs finished a 4-9 season with a 35-28 loss at San Diego State. Hill had a 112-80 record and went to 11 bowl games, but he had a 40-41 record over his last 81 games.

• Colorado State football coach Steve Fairchild has been fired after three straight 3-9 seasons. On Saturday the Rams lost their eighth straight game, 22-19 to Wyoming.

Hired Arkansas State’s Hugh Freeze has agreed to take the Mississippi job, according to a person familiar to the coaching search. A formal announcement is expected today. Freeze, 42, led the Red Wolves to the 2011 Sun Belt Conference championship and 10-2 record.

• UAB hired Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee as head coach.

Died Former Brazil great Socrates, the clever playmaker who captained the country at soccer’s 1982 World Cup, died in Sao Paulo. He was 57. Known for his elegant style on the field and his deep involvement with Brazilian politics, Socrates died of septic shock resulting from an intestinal infection.
