Hodges sparks Rosalia win

Flash Hodges, who made three 3-pointers in a 17-point effort, hit six straight free throws in the fourth quarter to help Rosalia hold off Medical Lake 50-39 Friday in the championship game of the Rosalia boys basketball tournament.

Nathan Richards added 11 points and 10 boards to lead a 30-24 rebounding advantage for the Spartans (9-1). Kevin Fisher led ML (6-2) with 11 points.

Liberty 57, Asotin 49: The Lancers used a 23-point fourth quarter to race away from a six-point deficit after three quarters to claim third place in the Rosalia tournament. Jordan Green had 16 points to lead three double-figure scorers for Liberty (2-6). Ben Servatius scored 24 for Asotin.

Girls basketball

Medical Lake 50, Rosalia 41: The championship game of the Rosalia tournament turned into a shootout with Amelia Cook leading the Cardinals (4-4) to the title with 25 points. Briann Maley led Rosalia (7-3) with 18.

Asotin 63, Liberty 33: A 19-1 first-quarter started the Panthers to victory in the third-place game in the Rosalia tournament. Zara Reynolds scored 22 for Asotin. Brittany Breidenbach led Liberty (2-6) with 10.

Whitman tournament: Valley Christian (3-6) went 2-1, sandwiching wins around a second-game loss, to claim third place in the event that ended Thursday.

Football

The Spokane Shock added wide receiver Brent Holmes, who had 110 receptions for 1,299 yards and 22 touchdowns last year with the Arena Football League’s Cleveland Gladiators, to their 2011 roster.

KIJHL

Joel Stewart scored a shorthanded goal in the first period and assisted on a Nelson powerplay goal by Gavin Currie in the second to lead the Leafs to a 4-2 victory over the Spokane Braves in Nelson, B.C.

Mitch Fowler and Guisseppe Dippolito scored for the Braves (16-19-0-1), who would have tied the Leafs (18-15-0-1) for third place in the Neil Murdoch Division with a win.
