Spokane Indians defeat Everett to tie for first

EVERETT – Brett Nicholas tied the game with a two-run homer, Edwin Garcia put Spokane ahead for good with a solo shot and the Indians moved into a tie for first place Wednesday with a 6-3 Northwest League win over the AquaSox at Memorial Stadium.

The contest, an opener of a five-game set, is a rematch of last year’s NWL championship series won by Everett.

Spokane improved to 14-12 to knot Boise for first place in the East Division with 12 games left before the season’s first-half champion is crowned. Everett is 10-16 and 11 games out of first in the West.

James Wood hit a two-run homer in the second to help stake Everett to a 3-0 lead.

Everett starter Stephen Landazuri mowed down the Indians until the sixth, when Zachary Cone’s two-out double to left field scored Ruben Sierra. Nicholas followed with a homer to right-center, his fifth of the season.

Garcia’s one-out solo shot to left in the seventh snapped the tie. Spokane added two in the eighth, highlighted by Trever Adams’ RBI double.
