Colton 67, Neah Bay 34

McKenzie Heaslet finished with 17 points and five rebounds and the Colton Wildcats (24-2) made quick work of the Neah Bay Red Devils (23-3), using a 23-5 run in the second quarter to pull away for good.

Heaslet shot 7 of 13 from the field and Mollie Kramer added nine rebounds to go with her 14 points.

After leading by two at the end of the opening frame, the Wildcats outscored Neah Bay 51-20 the rest of the way. They forced 25 turnovers in the game, turning them into 20 points.

The Red Devils were led by Rebecca Thompson’s 11 points and seven rebounds from Merissa Murner.

The Owls’ 11 points broke the previous record of 15 set by several teams. That mark of 11, however, was eclipsed one game later when Lopez scored nine points against Columbia.

The Owls attempted just 17 shots against the Knights, who scored 45 points off turnovers.

Marisa Boersma added 13 points and four rebounds for the Knights, who will play Colton in the state semifinals.

Mary Knight will play Neah Bay in a loser-out game.

Krista Colvin notched 16 points and five steals and – for the second time on the day – the record for lowest points in a game was broken, as the Columbia Lions (27-2) held the Lopez Lobos (11-10) to nine points, keeping them scoreless in the second and fourth quarters.

The Lions forced 35 turnovers in the game, outscoring Lopez 31-2 off turnovers.

Lindesy Loe added seven points and seven rebounds and Julie Ann Larrew had eight points for Columbia, which moves on to the state semifinals, awaiting a rematch of the District 7 title game against Almira/Coulee-Hartline.

For the Lobos, the loss moves them into the state record books, though not in the way they would like. Their nine-point effort was two points lower than Mary M. Knight, which scored just 11 in its loss to Sunnyside Christian.
