Huskies will host first two rounds

The Washington Huskies are seeded 13th and will play host to the first two rounds of the Omaha Region in the NCAA Division I women’s volleyball tournament it was announced Sunday.

Washington (23-6) will play Central Arkansas (30-4), making its first tournament appearance, on Thursday in the first round in Seattle. The winner will play either Hawaii (25-2) or Santa Clara (20-11) on Saturday.

Six other Pac-12 teams were chosen for the tourney – No. 2 seed Stanford, No. 5 seed Oregon, No. 6 seed Southern Cal, No. 7 seed UCLA, Arizona State and California.

This is the 13th straight year the Pac-12 has had at least six teams selected.

Men’s basketball

Joel YellowOwl scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Yakima Valley Yaks (3-0) to an 82-74 victory over the CC Spokane Sasquatch in the championship game of the Red Devil Classic in Longview, Wash.

Brady Bagby had 21 points and eight boards to pace the Sasquatch (2-1).

Junior hockey

Dylan Tappe tallied two goals and an assist to propel the Spokane Braves (10-15-1-1, 22 points) to a 6-4 victory over the visiting Grand Forks Border Bruins (3-20-0-2) in KIJHL play.

Paxton Bell, Alex Peltram, Sean Collins and Matt Thurston also scored for Spokane.
