Obituary: Putnam, Ruth Cleora (Ellis)

PUTNAM, Ruth Cleora (Ellis) Ruth was born in Spokane on June 29th 1917 to John and Stella Ellis.

She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family.

Ruth attended Spokane area schools and was a proud graduate of Central Valley High School, class of 1933.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Charles Alfred Putnam.

Ruth is survived by her four children; Gale (Ellen) Putnam, Kipp Putnam, Michael Putnam, and Patricia Sturgell.

She is also survived by her eight grandchildren; Kim Forbes and Shalena Putnam, Jeff and Chris Putnam, Desira Johnson, Curtis Putnam, and Katrina Brown, and Stacey Hanrahan.

She was affectionately known as GG to her numerous great-grandchildren and also had many great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth worked as the switchboard operator at Riverview Terrace Retirement Home for many years.

She loved decorating her home for every holiday and often hosted family gatherings.

She especially looked forward to Thanksgiving and would prepare for the holiday for weeks ahead: baking, cleaning, and decorating.

Ruth loved hearing the laughter and conversation of her family when they gathered together, visiting and playing table games.

Ruth was a devoted Christian who would not hesitate to help a family member, friend or even a stranger throughout her life.

The family would like to thank Anita Langley, and Stacy and Becky and the staff at Horizon Hospice, who all lovingly cared for Ruth throughout the last months of her life.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at Hillyard Baptist Church, 2121 E. Wabash at 11am on Saturday, April 27th.
