Barbershop quartets will sing for your sweetheart

Pages of Harmony takes show on road for Valentine’s Day

The Spokane barbershop quartets are getting ready to deliver singing surprises to local sweethearts on Valentine’s Day.

The quartets are all part of Pages of Harmony Men’s Chorus which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Every year, they take their show on the road for Valentine’s Day.

“We are aiming for 100 sing outs,” said Jeff Marsell, president of Pages of Harmony. “We had 65 last year and this year we are working hard to get it up to 100.”

The group has six quartets ready to travel and sing on Valentine’s Day, and they can “throw one more together at the last minute” if they have to, Marsell said.

The singing Valentines travel all over the Spokane area including, but not limited to Cheney, Post Falls, Hayden, the South Hill and north Spokane.

“We’ll do Deer Park if we get one up there,” Marsell said.

All proceeds go to Pages of Harmony.

Last year, Marsell’s quartet did 22 sing outs on Valentine’s Day; another quartet did 25.

“Yes, I guess that is a lot of singing,” Marsell said, “but it’s not like it’s a rock concert every time. We just sing two songs.”

Individuals, groups and offices order the sing outs.

“We tend to draw a crowd no matter where we go,” Marsell said. “It is great fun.”
