Obituary: Ericksen, Evelyn Holm

ERICKSEN, Evelyn Holm (Age 91) Entered peacefully into rest on 15 January 2014.

She was born 12 April 1922 in Arlington, WA to Herman and Francis Holm.

Evelyn and her family moved to Worley, ID where her father farmed until it was lost during the great depression years.

Her family there afterwards moved to Kellogg, ID where she attended Kellogg High School graduating at the top of the class as an honor student and class president in 1939.

Leaving Kellogg, she attended Eastern Washington College of Education at Cheney, WA for several years before being employed in the editorial department of the Spokesman-Review newspaper, Spokane, WA.

Returning to school, Evelyn received her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1955 from Washington State College, Pullman, WA.

Her first employment as a registered nurse was at St. Luke’s hospital in Spokane where she was assigned to work at the Shriner’s Children Hospital.

In 1956 Evelyn left St. Luke’s to work at the Veteran’s Hospital in Spokane where she met her husband shortly after his release from service in the U.S. Navy.

They were married in 1960 and moved to San Diego, CA where she continued her career in nursing until retiring in 1995.

As a nurse, Evelyn was always “Very Kind, Thoughtful, and Giving” to the ill and always did her best to help those in need.

Her first love was sailing and swimming and with her husband would go sailing and swimming with every opportunity sailing the Pacific Ocean waters around San Diego.

She also loved traveling to new places and always expressed she was most fortunate in her life to have traveled to both Europe and Asia.

Evelyn was an avid lover of animals and a member of numerous animal rights groups and a member of the Humane Society.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggest donations in Evelyn’s name be made to the Kootenai Humane Society, 11650 N. Ramsey Rd.

Memorial Services will begin 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. 4th Street in Coeur D’Alene, ID officiated by Rev.

Vicenta Cisneros.

Her husband gives special thanks to Yates Funeral Home for their assistance in her Funeral and to Hospice of North Idaho for the wonderful care they provided.
