Winners of first Festival of Chefs announced

Chefs Jeramie Entner and Patrick Fechser of Hay J’s Bistro won the inaugural Festival of Chefs People’s Choice Award out of the event’s nine featured restaurants.

Presented by the Spokane Home Builders Association in conjunction with the Fall Festival of Homes, the fest took place Oct. 2 and was attended by more than 250 people.

Spokane Home Builders Association donated $1,000 of the proceeds to the Women & Children’s Free Restaurant, which provides meals for women and children in need.

Hay J’s Bistro is located at 21706 E. Mission Ave. in Liberty Lake.

Wine and auction

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is hosting its annual Toasting and Tasting auction and wine event on Saturday.

Thirteen local vintners will offer samples and answer questions about their wines. The event also features hors d’oeuvres and live as well as silent auctions. It takes place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the church, 5720 S. Perry St.

Tickets cost $40. Proceeds will benefit the church’s community outreach programs.

Holiday food fest

St. Mark’s Lutheran and Faith Presbyterian churches are holding their annual Holiday Bazaar and Food Festival on Saturday.

The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 9485 N. Maple St. in Hayden. Lunch – soup, sandwiches, pies, cake, cookies – is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

New Good Food Org Guide

The James Beard Foundation and Food Tank have launched their first annual Good Food Org Guide, which identifies more than 400 U.S.-based organizations that are working to grow a better food system.

The guide includes at least five nonprofit, scholarly or municipal initiatives from each state.
