Obituary: Deuber, Harry Harrison, Jr.
Age 83
Harry was born April 28, 1931 to Harry Harrison Deuber Sr. and Gertrude (Speicher ) Deuber in Conshohocken, PA.
He spent his childhood in Gulph Mills, PA. Harry joined the US Air Force in 1950 and served proudly in the Korean War.
He was honorably discharged in August of 1954 from Geiger Field in Spokane, Washington.
During his time stationed at Geiger Field, he met Elizabeth Stroyan.
They were married in November, 1954.
After the wedding they moved to King Manor, PA.
They returned to Spokane in September 1958 with three children.
Harry was a self-taught artist who worked in black and white and colored inks as well as opaque watercolors.
Highlights of his accomplishments as an artist include: receiving national awards for his commercial art work; designing the original medallion for Spokane’s Walk in the Wild Zoo; participating in the design and creation of the Deer Park, WA mural as a member of the Deer Park Art Association.
Harry’s “Bigfoot” character is displayed at the “Harry and the Henderson’s Big Foot Museum” in western Washington.
His artwork continues to be showcased at Timber Creek Lodge in Spokane Valley.
Harry worked many years in commercial advertising freelancing for many local businesses.
He spent his last 39 working years employed at Zeigler Lumber Company overseeing the advertising.
Harry is well known for the “Ziggy” character logo he created in 1969 and which continues to be seen in advertising media throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Besides his art, Harry enjoyed gardening and landscaping, creating an oasis at their home on Findley Road outside of Deer Park, WA.
Harry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth, daughter Debbie Hess(Art Weltz), daughter Denise Wright(Mike), and sons Mark and Martin Deuber (Sharlene), brother Robert Deuber (Sharon) in PA., sister-in-law Jackie Franks, brother-in-law William Stroyan(Farol), eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was loved by many and he will be missed!
A Funeral Service will be conducted at Mary Queen Church on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11:00 am, E. 3423 Carlisle Ave. Harry will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Jump Off Joe in Stephen’s County Washington at 3:30 pm on Thursday, October 9th.
