Rays 4, Red Sox 3 (10)

Matt Joyce had an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to help Tampa Bay beat Boston in St. Petersburg, Florida. Ryan Hanigan opened the 10th with a double off Burke Badenhop, which withstood a replay review. Kevin Kiermaier was intentionally walked before Ben Zobrist had a sacrifice bunt. After Wil Myers was given an intentional walk, pinch-runner Sean Rodriquez, who ran for Hanigan, scored on Joyce’s hit to left. Grant Balfour worked a scoreless inning for the win. He did give up a one-out single in the 10th to Christian Vazquez, but then picked off pinch-runner Jemile Weeks at first base. After Mike Napoli hit a solo homer in the fourth inning, Yoenis Cespedes got the Red Sox even at 3-3 with an RBI single off Steve Geltz in the eighth.

Marlins 9, Mets 6

Giancarlo Stanton hit his 34th home run and host Miami scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat New York. The Marlins took advantage of some wildness by Mets reliever Jeurys Familia in the eighth. Familia had two throwing errors and a wild pitch, leading to the three tiebreaking runs as the Marlins snapped a five-game losing streak to the Mets. Jarrod Saltalamacchia scored on Familia’s wild pitch, giving the Marlins a 7-6 lead. Adeiny Hechavarria later scored on a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded and Christian Yelich came in on a walk to Casey McGehee. Marcell Ozuna and McGehee had two RBIs each for the Marlins, who used five relievers after starter Henderson Alvarez left in the third inning with a left oblique strain. A.J. Ramos pitched a scoreless eighth and Steve Cishek the ninth for his 32nd save.

Cubs 4, Brewers 2

Welington Castillo homered and drove in three runs, Luis Valbuena also hit a home run and Chicago beat visiting Milwaukee. Rookie sensation Jorge Soler had two doubles in his home debut for the Cubs and Jacob Turner won in just his second start for Chicago after being acquired from Miami last month. The right-hander allowed just one run and five hits in 6 1/3 innings. Hector Rondon pitched the ninth for his 23rd save in 27 chances. Soler became just the third player in the last 100 years to have at least one extra-base hit in each of his first five games in the majors. Will Middlebrooks did it for the Boston Red Sox in 2012 and Enos Slaughter for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1938. Jimmy Nelson, who was called up from the minors to make the start, took the loss.

Giants 4-9, Rockies 2-10

Hunter Pence hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth and, more than three months after he homered in the early innings, led San Francisco over Colorado in Denver in a game resumed after being suspended on May 22 because of rain. The game restarted tied at 2 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and a runner on first. Jeremy Affeldt struck out pinch-hitter Josh Rutledge to end the inning. Affeldt earned the win with 1 1/3 hitless innings. In the regularly scheduled second game, Charlie Blackmon lined a two-out single in the ninth inning off reliever Sergio Romo, helping Colorado beat San Francisco and stop the Giants’ six-game win streak. Rockies reliever LaTroy Hawkins blew a save in the top of the ninth. In the bottom half, Mike McKenry led off with a single up the middle off Romo. McKenry easily scored from second when Blackmon’s hit fell near the right-field line.

Padres 3, D-backs 1

Cory Spangenberg had a two-run single for his first big-league hit and Tyson Ross pitched six strong innings to lead San Diego to a home victory against Arizona. Spangenberg, the team’s first-round pick in the 2011 draft, had his contract selected from Double-A San Antonio and started at third base. He came up with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth inning and singled to right off reliever Eury De La Rosa for a 3-0 lead. Spangenberg is the third player in Padres history to have multiple RBIs in his big league debut.

Nationals 6, Dodgers 4

Denard Span hit two of Washington’s four homers, Gio Gonzalez got his first victory of the second half and the Nationals beat host Los Angeles. Gonzalez allowed three runs and three hits in six-plus innings. The left-hander was 0-5 with a 4.38 ERA in his previous nine games. He also doubled and scored on Anthony Rendon’s double off Brandon League in the seventh. Rafael Soriano pitched a shaky ninth to earn his 31st save. He yielded an RBI single to Juan Uribe, after the ball skipped by the mound and caromed off second base, allowing Yasiel Puig to score. The Dodgers then had runners on the corners with two outs but Joc Pederson took a called third strike in his major league debut.
