Weekend weather: Temperatures back on the rise this weekend

This morning’s weather may have an early autumn feel to it after passage of a cold front and rain storm on Wednesday.

But sunny skies today should warm nicely with a return to summer conditions by the weekend.

Highs today should be in the middle 70s in Spokane, warming to near 80 on Friday and the middle 80s by Saturday and Sunday.

This morning’s pre-dawn low in the middle 40s is the coolest reading in months.

But overnight lows are going to recover to the lower 50s by the weekend.

Higher air pressure that is bringing the warm up should linger into next week, forecasters said.

Temperatures in North Idaho will likely run several degrees cooler than Spokane.

Higher-elevation temperatures should recover to the 50s today and Friday and then go to the low 60s over the weekend in North Idaho. Lows should be in the 40s.

The risk of rain showers in the mountains, which was present during a number of summer weekends, is no longer a threat this weekend. Sunny to mostly sunny skies are expected.

The Kettle Crest range and the Cascades should see temperatures that are several degrees warmer than North Idaho with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s by the weekend.

The Lake Roosevelt recreation area should see highs going from about 79 today to as warm as 89 on Sunday.

The cold area associated with this week’s weather system was creating a risk of frost this morning in western Montana where a frost advisory was issued by the weather service.
