Obituary: Mccanna, Marilyn Etter

Age 80

McCANNA, Marilyn Etter Was born October 27, 1934 in Spokane, Washington and passed away on April 8, 2015.

Marilyn was raised in Spokane with her seven brothers and sisters.

She attended Saint Aloysius Elementary School, Holy Names High School and then attended Seattle University.

Marilyn married Daniel R. McCanna and had four children Ray, Tim, Daniel (Boone) and Kerri.

Marilyn loved attending her children’s sporting events and often reviewed game film with her close friends.

She also followed the family’s horse racing business by watching the results daily on her computer.

Marilyn was passionate about her 11 grandchildren.

She had special relationships with each of them and helped raise them.

Attending all of their events was important to her.

She would drive miles to see a game, first communion or graduation.

Marilyn loved golf, and spending time at the lake with her family and making sure everyone was OK. Marilyn had a strong faith in God and the Catholic church; she prayed for everyone.

Marilyn never missed a Novena of Grace in 60 years.

Marilyn worked for the Central Valley School District for 30 years in various buildings including Keystone, Evergreen and Bowdish middle schools.

She retired from the Central Valley School District’s Learning and Teacher Center at 63.

Marilyn loved all of her positions and made many lasting friendships.

Marilyn was a member of the Suburbanites, volunteered at St. Marys, Vanessa Behan, Hospice and a variety of other organizations.

She will be remembered for her work ethic, tender heart and kind spirit.

Holidays with her family were especially dear to her heart.

Marilyn is survived by her sisters, Donna Jurdy, Betsy, (Tom) Jackson, Sandy (Lance) Russum; and her brothers, James (Billie) Etter, Frank (Patsy) Etter, and Mike (Sue) Etter; her children Ray (Becky) McCanna, Tim (Jan) McCanna, Boone and Kerri (Tim) Ames.

Marilyn leaves 11 grandchildren, Melissa (Brad) Runnun, Mallory McCanna, Megan McCanna, Katherine McCanna, Daniel McCanna, Conor McCanna, Halle Barsness-Ames, Collin Ames, Casey Ames, Cory Ames, Nicholas Smith McCanna and large extended family.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Hal Etter and her sister Halene, and daughter in law Miquette McCanna.

Services will be held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in the Spokane Valley and will include: Rosary, Friday, April 17th at 7:00 pm, Funeral Mass, Saturday, April 18th at 11:00 am.

All family and friends are invited to a reception at The Valley Event Center, 10512 E. Sprague Ave. Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
