Confirmed Eighteen-time Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps is aiming to compete in a fifth Olympics next year in Rio de Janeiro, although he won’t swim in the world championships this summer. The 29-year-old Phelps confirmed his intention to make one last run at the Olympics on Wednesday.

Announced Tottenham will play Major League Soccer’s All-Stars on July 29 at Commerce City, Colorado.

Died The International Tennis Hall of Fame reported that Thelma Coyne Long, an Australian who won 19 Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles or mixed doubles, has died. She was 96. She won two major championships in singles, 12 in doubles and five in mixed doubles

Reported Duke freshman guard Tyus Jones is the latest Blue Devil to jump into the NBA draft. Jones was selected as the most outstanding player at the Final Four after averaging 13 points and 4.5 assists in six NCAA tournament games. During the past week, classmates Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow also declared themselves eligible for the draft.

• North Carolina State guard Trevor Lacey will enter the NBA draft. The 6-foot-3 Alabama native averaged 15.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists in his only season playing for N.C. State.

• Arkansas forward Michael Qualls said he’s leaving school to turn professional following a breakout junior season. He averaged 15.9 points per game this season.

Signed NCAA champion goaltender Jon Gillies has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames. Gillies made 49 saves for Providence in a 4-3 win over Boston University on Saturday to end his college career with an NCAA championship.

Punished The IndyCar Series docked driver Ryan Hunter-Reay three points and put him on probation for the next three races for his role in a three-car crash at the Grand Prix of Louisiana. IndyCar said that the Andretti Autosport driver violated a rule on avoidable contact during a restart with less than 10 minutes remaining of the rain-shortened road race.

Fired The Boston Bruins fired general manager Peter Chiarelli. The move comes after the team missed the playoffs for the first time in eight years. It’s just four seasons since the Bruins won the Stanley Cup; they returned to the NHL Finals two years ago. Chiarelli built the Bruins for nine years. In 2011, they won the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship in 39 years.
