Obituary: Stueckle, Irma Lavonne (Culbertson)

Age 92

STUECKLE, Irma LaVonne (Culbertson) (Age 92) Lifetime Whitman County resident, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015 at Whitman Health and Rehab.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14 at the First Baptist Church of Colfax with Rev.

Dean Ellis officiating.

Vault interment will follow at the Colfax Cemetery.

Viewing will be Thursday, August 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Irma was born on November 14, 1922 in Colfax, Washington to Raymond and Nellie (Lyons) Culbertson.

She attended Hamilton Grade School for eight years and graduated from Colfax High School in 1941.

She attended Kinman Business University and then worked at the Whitman County Courthouse until her marriage to Ernest Stueckle in 1944, which later ended in divorce.

They resided on a farm near Dusty until moving to the Hill-Ray Plaza in Colfax in 1988.

Irma accepted Christ and was baptized as a young teen.

She taught Sunday school classes, Good News Clubs, Vacation Bible School classes and led women’s Bible studies.

She was active in Christian Women’s Club.

Irma attended the Country Bible Church in Dusty and served as an active member there until moving to Colfax when she then attended First Baptist Church.

Irma served as office manager of Hill-Ray Plaza for a few years and later served on the Board of Trustees.

She also served as the Administrator of Hill-Ray until her retirement in 2007.

Irma loved to tour the United States with her family and also took many tours with the Heritage Club, including trips to Hawaii and Mexico.

Irma was well known for her water-witching skills in Whitman County and the Spokane area.

She was an avid reader of good books, enjoyed knitting, jigsaw puzzles and crosswords.

Irma was devoted to her family and thoroughly enjoyed boating, waterskiing and swimming with her family and friends.

She is survived by her three daughters, Dianne (Dan) Morris of Valleyford, Jeanne Levy of Tacoma and Janice (Harmon) Smith of LaCrosse; three granddaughters, Karen Morris of Spokane, Kristal (Bruce) Berglund of Valleyford and Gina (Jason) Morgan of Yakima as well as three great-grandchildren Brooke and Avery Berglund and Micah Morgan.

Also surviving are her sister Leona (Harvey) Herman of Colfax; and sisters-in-law Betty Culbertson of Walla Walla and Shirley Richardson of Colfax.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Max and her brothers Dean and Dale Culbertson.
