No-Li Brewhouse is moving from monkeys to donkeys.
The Spokane brewery announced today it would follow up its Brass Monkey summer seasonal with another cocktail-inspired creation for fall, Copper Donkey. It’s scheduled to start shipping in 22-ounce bottles and draft on Sept. 22.
While Brass Monkey mimicked the low-key beer concoction of that name – made by mixing malt liquor with orange juice – Copper Donkey copies an actual cocktail, the Moscow Mule, a combination of vodka, ginger beer and lime.
Those are typically served in copper mugs , which is where the No-Li beer gets its name. At 8 percent alcohol by volume and 30 International Bitterness Units, it’s brewed with lime peel and ginger along with flaked rye to accent the spiciness, and Equinox hops for further lemon-lime notes.
It replaces No-Li’s longtime, traditional Winter Warmer in the seasonal lineup, though that still might make an appearance on draft at the pub.
