Fresh Sheet: The Scoop, Brainfreeze, Robert Irvine

Ice cream for breakfast

The first Saturday in February is National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day.

To celebrate, The Scoop on Spokane’s South Hill is offering specials like ice cream-stuffed doughnut sandwiches and Belgian waffles à la mode. Look for a glazed doughnut with Nutella ice cream and chocolate-covered bacon. Or, add a scoop to your morning coffee.

The Scoop will open an hour earlier – at 8 a.m. – on Saturday at 101 W. 25th Ave. Call (509) 535-7171. On the Web: www.thescoopspokane.com. On Facebook: www.facebook.com/TheScoopSpokane.

No brainer

Brain Freeze is expanding to Spokane’s South Hill.

The local micro-creamery opened a storefront last May in Spokane’s Kendall Yards. A second location is slated to open at 3103 S. Grand Ave. “sometime in April,” said owner Tom Purdum.

He and his wife, Julie, bought the creamery in 2011. They sold their downtown bar Jones Radiator at the end of December to focus on their ice cream business. The forthcoming shop will feature 16 flavors, desserts and “grab-and-go” foods, Tom Purdum said.
