Four corners: Eastern Washington Eagles

Coming up: Tonight vs. Sacramento State, 6 p.m.; Saturday vs. Portland State, 2 p.m.

Outlook: At stake tonight is sole possession of first place in the Big Sky Conference. Eastern has won 10 of its last 11, with the sole loss coming 90-77 in Sacramento, California, which means that a win would not only give the Hornets a one-game lead with seven to go, but also the head-to-head tiebreaker edge. EWU coach Jim Hayford counts Hornets counterpart Brian Katz as a close friend. “It’s kind of surreal that our two teams are playing each other for first place,” said Hayford. who welcomes back star guard Tyler Harvey. The Hornets are shooting 51.5 percent in conference games and are led by playmaking senior guards Mikh McKinney (20 ppg, 6.1 apg) and Dylan Garrity (14.5 ppg, 3.7 apg, with the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the Sky at 3.4). A potential trap games looms two days later against PSU, which gave Eastern a tough game in Portland last month.
