Fresh Sheet
Dine Out to Feed Spokane
March is National Nutrition Month.
To celebrate, the Greater Spokane Dietetic Association is holding its seventh annual Dine Out to Feed Spokane.
The event raises funds for Feed Spokane, a nonprofit that delivers food from local restaurants to some 20 free meal sites. Eateries contact the organization when they have leftover food, which is collected, then taken to distribution points. Participating restaurants will make a donation to Feed Spokane when diners visit on designated days in March or order from special Dine Out menus.
For information on where and when to dine, search online for “Dine Out to Feed Spokane” or visit the event’s “Dine Out to Feed Spokane” Facebook page or https://feedspokane.com/.
Sausage fest
The Uniontown Sausage Feed takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The all-you-can-eat menu features handmade sausage, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, applesauce and pie. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for children ages 6 to 12, and $2 for children 6 and younger.
It’s first-come, first-served, but take-out can be picked up without a wait. Proceeds will help maintain Uniontown’s Community Building, the site of the fest, 206 S. Montgomery St., in Uniontown. For more information, visit www.uniontown.us or call (509) 229-3805.
Dishwasher lasagna
Alton Brown takes to the stage Sunday night in Spokane.
To prepare for the celebrity chef’s visit, it might be fun to watch him prepare lasagna – in a dishwasher. Brown appeared on the Discovery Channel’s “MythBusters” show to find out if the dish can in fact be cooked in the appliance. The segment can be found online at http://www.discovery.com/ tv-shows/mythbusters/videos/ dishwasher-lasagna-minimyth/
Meantime, Brown’s asking local food-and-drink aficionados for restaurant, bar and coffee recommendations. To suggest your favorite eateries, tweet at him using hashtag #ABRoadEats Spokane. His Twitter handle is @altonbrown. Or, connect with him on Facebook at www.facebook.com/altonbrown and make suggestions using the same hashtag.
Brown’s slated to appear at the INB Performing Arts Center as part of his “Edible Inevitable Tour.”
