Fresh Sheet: Souper Bowl
Souper Bowl
The Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
That day is also the Souper Bowl of Caring, a campaign started in 1990 to raise awareness of – and food and money to combat – hunger. During the big game, Americans’ food consumption is second only to that on Thanksgiving.
Among the local organizations and events participating in this year’s effort are Feed Cheney ( www. feedcheney.com), Moran Prairie United Methodist Church (collecting canned soup for Second Harvest), and the Women’s Souper Bowl Snowshoe and Cross Country Ski Sunday ( souperbowl spokane.org).

Wine time
There’s still time to register for the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers 2015 Convention.
The event features workshops for growers, winemakers, tasting room staff members and marketers. This year’s theme is “Washington Wines on the Map.”
The four-day convention bills itself as the premier educational opportunity for the Pacific Northwest grape and wine industry. It takes place Feb. 10-13 at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick, alongside a trade show with 160 booths in the adjacent Toyota Center.

Waiting table
The Food section recently asked readers to share their food-related New Year’s resolutions.
As the first month of 2015 draws to an end, Heidi Downey has one to share.
“Mine is to not leave the table when my little girls are eating dinner,” the 40-year-old Spokane mom wrote in an email. “No chores done or starting on dishes if they take too long.”
