Arkansas, LSU clinch World Series spots

Zach Jackson pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief and Arkansas earned its first College World Series berth in three years with a 3-2 victory over Missouri State in their super regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Sunday.

The CWS appearance is the eighth in school history for the Razorbacks (40-23), who are 26-9 this season since falling to 14-14 following a loss to the Bears (49-12) on March 31.

Arkansas won the first game of the series 18-4 before falling 3-1 in the second Saturday.

The Razorbacks scored three times in the first inning Sunday, including an RBI single from Tyler Spoon. James Teague (7-4) and a pair of relievers held Missouri State to eight hits.

The Bears, attempting to reach their second CWS, left 10 runners on base.

LSU 6, Louisiana-Lafayette 3: Jared Poche struck out seven and did not allow a run until the eighth inning, Kade Scivicque broke up a scoreless tie with a home run in the seventh, and the Tigers (53-10) clinched their 17th College World Series appearance with a victory over the Ragin’ Cajuns (42-23) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Louisville 9, Cal State Fullerton 3: Danny Rosenbaum had four hits and Corey Ray and Logan Taylor each added three hits and three RBIs to lead the Cardinals (47-17) to a win over the Titans (38-23) in Louisville, Kentucky, to even the best-of-three at one game apiece.

Texas A&M 2, TCU 1 (10): Nick Choruby scored on Blake Allemand’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning, and the Aggies (50-13) forced a deciding Game 3 in their NCAA super regional with a victory over the Horned Frogs (48-13) in Fort Worth, Texas.

Vanderbilt-Illinois, ppd.: The second game of the super regional series between Vanderbilt and Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, has been postponed until today because of storms in the forecast. Vanderbilt won the opening game of the series.
