Saturday sweetness at Batch

Batch has expanded its hours.

The bakeshop is now open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. It’s also open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Founded in 2011, Batch opened its first storefront last September. It’s now taking orders for carrot and coconut cakes and citrus tarts for Easter weekend. And, it’s creating a cookbook club.

To start, members will bake their way through “Baking Chez Moi” by Dorie Greenspan. The book is available at the bakeshop for $40; the price includes a gift card for free coffee during March.

Members will try out recipes at home, then have coffee at Batch to share their experiences. The plan is to test recipes from different cookbooks every two or three months.

For more information, contact Batch, 2023 W. Dean Ave., at (509) 413-3759 or batchbakeshop@gmail.com. On the Web: www.batch-bakeshop.com or facebook.com/batchbakeshop.

Yogurt tasting

Spokane’s Rocket Market is hosting a yogurt tasting Tuesday night.

The event offers the chance to try several heirloom styles from the new Flora Yogurt Co. Owner Karyna Hamilton uses milk from Spokane Family Farms to produce unflavored yogurt in small batches.

She started making yogurt for friends and family a few years ago. A successful Kickstarter campaign last year helped cover the cost of a custom, 10-gallon pasteurizer.

Flora shares kitchen space with Batch Bakeshop at 2023 W. Dean Ave. in Spokane’s West Central neighborhood.

Tuesday’s tasting is $8, includes a quart of yogurt and takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rocket Market, 726 E. 43rd Ave. Call Rocket Market at (509) 343-2253 to reserve a spot.

Members Market

Spokane’s CasaCano Farms is launching a members market as an alternative to traditional community-supported agriculture, or CSA, programs.
