Ales of Avista: Rest of the fest
This is the third and last in a series of posts exploring the beer lineup for this weekend’s Inland Northwest Craft Beer Festival.
There’s truly something for everyone at this year’s Inland Northwest Craft Beer Festival .
So far this week, we’ve told you about all the IPAs , and the fruit and fall beers that will be pouring Friday and Saturday at Avista Stadium. Here’s a look at the rest of the lineup:
Light brigade: Boundary Bay’s sessionable Lightner Beer (3.7, 24) looks to be the lowest-octane offering of the weekend. Schooner Exact will have its Golden Calinete (4.5, 20), infused with jalapeno and serrano peppers, and Paradise Creek brings its bigger, but still easy-drinking Pokerface Blonde (6.5, 22).
Cream of the wheats: Smooth wheat beer offerings include Top Frog’s traditional German Wheat (4.5); Ten Pin’s lightly sour and salty Gose (5, 10), in a more obscure but increasingly popular German style; and Three Magnets’ Dry Hopped Grisette (5.5, 40), a milder Belgian-style beer that’s also brewed with oats and rye, and fermented with both saison yeast and Brett.
Darker dunkelweizens come from Fish (Boulder Bend, 5), Black Label (“The Hoff,” 5.5, 16) and Twelve String (Crescendo Series, 5.6, 18)
Lager roll: Not all of our “ales of Avista” are ales. There’s Big Barn’s Mead Honey Lager (4.6. 22); Orlison’s golden Clem’s (5.3, 29) and its Belgian-accented relative, Clementine (5.1, 29); and pilsners from Two Beers (Pilchuk, 5) and Top Frog (6.3).
Then there are the bigger boys: Orlison’s 2 Finger Pour (8, 21), brewed with sweet orange peel and bitters over whiskey barrel chips, to mimic an Old Fashioned cocktail; Perry Street’s darkly fruity Doppelbock (7.4, 23); and River City’s intense, concentrated Eisbock (12.5, 50, pouring Friday only.)
Middle ground: Red ales are on the way from Top Frog (Red Ale with Espresso, 5), Twelve String (Crescendo Series Valley Red, 5.3, 40) and Twelve Bar Brews (Turnaround NW Red, 5.6, 30).
Waddell’s offers its lightly peated Scottish Ale (6.3), and Iron Goat is bringing the whiskey barrel-aged version of its Cap’n Kidd Scotch (8.5, 37).
Also look for Riverport’s grainy Grand Ronde Rye (4.8), Republic’s nicely smoky Wildfire rauchbier (6.8, 24) and English Setter’s roasty Field Point Brown (5.6, 35).
Dark side: Plenty of porters and stouts round out the roster, including Der Blokken’s The Black Porter (6.5), Diamond Knot’s Possession Porter (5.6, 45), Republic’s Big Mischief Porter (6.5, 45), Top Frog’s Poison Dart Oak Porter (5.5), Badass Backyard’s Black (7, 53), English Setter’s Hold Steady Stout (6, 20), Hopped Up’s hickory-aged Woody Stout (6, 35), Iron Goat’s Goatmeal (5.6, 29), Steam Plant’s Double Stack (6.4, 43), Ten Pin’s Snake Eye Stout (6.1, 32), Three Magnets’ Brimley Stout (6.5, 30) and Waddell’s Alligator Stout (6.9).
On the bigger, blacker side, River City has the Oako-Coco Nitro (8.6, 59) version of its Midnight Marmot imperial stout, aged with oak chips and cocoa nibs, and Top Frog its Nitro Imperial Stout (9.8).
And out of the barrel, there’s a pumpkin pie-spiced version of No-Li’s Rise & Grind coffee stout (6.5) aged in wheat whiskey barrels; River City’s Bourbon Barrel-Aged Vanilla Bean Stout (6, 55, Saturday only); Fremont’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Star (11, 50), which also will be Randalled through coffee beans; and Twelve String’s Rum Barrel Imperial Coconut Porter (8.3) and Bourbon Barrel Double Drop D Stout (9), as well as a firkin blend of Double Drop D and Belgian Dark Strong.
