Fresh Sheet: Tickets for University of Idaho’s A Moveable Feast dinner on sale
Tickets are now on sale for A Moveable Feast, the themed, multi-course dinner that’s part of the University of Idaho’s seventh annual Hemingway Festival.
The dinner celebrates Ernest Hemingway’s travels in Cuba and works set there, particularly “The Old Man and the Sea,” for which he won a Pulitzer Prize in 1953. Cuba figures prominently in that novel as well as 1937’s “To Have and Have Not” and 1970’s posthumous “Islands in the Stream.”
The theme of this year’s feast is Havana Nights. The dinner features a Cuban-inspired menu by University Inn executive chef Marshall Baltzell as well as Cuban music and dancing. Mojitos and daiquiris will be available for purchase, and wine will be provided.
The dinner raises funds for the university’s Hemingway Fellowship, given each year to a third-year fiction student in the university’s Creative Writing Program. Earlybird tickets are $75. Tickets increase to $85 after Feb. 1. The festival runs March 2 to 5, 2016. The feast is 6 to 9 p.m., March 4. at the Best Western Plus University Inn, 1516 Pullman Road in Moscow.

Edwina does it again
For the second year in a row, Edwina Gadsby has created a sandwich that’s in the running to win Oroweat’s “America’s Better Sandwich.”
Her Thai Sweet Chili Chicken Sandwich is one of 15 finalists in the second annual contest.
Categories are: Open-Face Artistry, Creative Classics, Breakfast in Bread, Love Healthfully and Fueling Good.
Gadsby has a chance to win the Creative Classics category as well as the $25,000 grand prize. But she needs the votes. Voting runs online through Oct. 18 at www.americasbettersandwich.com.
For every vote cast, Oroweat will donate a loaf of bread to Feeding America, a nationwide network of 200 food banks.
The winner will be announced on National Sandwich Day, Nov. 3.
Last year, the Hayden home cook was one of the top three finalists in the same category for her Asian Barbecue Pulled Chicken Sandwich with Slaw.
