Brew mo’ evil

An evil force is headed this way, the likes of which has rarely been seen in Spokane.

Pints Alehouse on Saturday is pouring seven beers from Evil Twin Brewing , which originated in Denmark and has become a bit of a deal in beer geek circles.

Its name is more than a catchy phrase. The brewery was launched in 2010 by Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø, identical twin brother of Mikkel Borg Bjergsø , the man behind famed Danish “gypsy brewer” Mikkeller – an even bigger deal in beer geek circles.

As for the “evil” part, there’s little love lost between the siblings, as detailed last year in a highly entertaining New York Times piece .

Both brothers contract with other breweries to produce their offerings, and specialize in more extreme, exotic styles. The now Brooklyn-based Evil Twin’s website lists 100 different beers, brewed largely in the U.S. and Denmark, as well as the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Scotland (with media darlings BrewDog ), Taiwan and Brazil.

Its beers aren’t regularly distributed on draft in this area, though some have occasionally shown up at Pints and elsewhere.

“Being able to get my hands on these kegs is very special,” Pints owner Derek Quist says of Saturday’s lineup, which includes:

– The tart, sessionable Sour Bikini (3 percent alcohol by volume).

– Falco (7), an American-style IPA.

– Molotov Lite (8.5) imperial IPA.

– Ashtray Heart (8.9), a smoked stout.

– The thick, creamy Soft DK (10.4) imperial stout.

– From Amager With Love (12), an imperial stout infused with blueberries.

– Imperial Doughnut Break (11.5), a version of the brewery’s beloved Imperial Biscotti Break porter with an added dose of doughnuts.

All will be available in sampler sizes as well as full pours (generally 12 ounces for the bigger beers).
