Your weekly roundup
More happenings from the past week in local craft beer:
– Fresh hop beers continue to crop up as the harvest progresses.
The Steam Plant and Big Barn collaborated on a Cascadian dark ale using mostly Cascades picked at Big Barn’s farm. Trickster’s has a Mosaic/Equinox one in the works to follow up its initial Simcoe/Citra combo The Hoppit (scheduled for release Thursday) and a session version.
In Wallace, North Idaho Mountain is readying a Citra rendition, while Wallace Brewing has released a Fresh Hop Vindicator IPA finished with 10 pounds of locally picked Cascades added to the regular beer in the bright tank.
– Downtown Spokane’s brewery incubator project had its brewing equipment delivered Wednesday (pictured above). Young Buck Brewing and Little Spokane Brewing Company, along with the Steel Barrel taproom, hope to open in November.
– River City has extended its taproom hours by an hour each day – until 9 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday – while Budge Brothers has added Sunday hours from 1 to 4 p.m.
– Bottles in Millwood has added table seating and now is serving beer (and wine) by the glass, as well as growler fills from its 18 taps.
– Rock City Grill is serving a beer cocktail menu made with No-Li brews and local Dry Fly spirits through Sept. 27.
– The Blackbird kicks off its brewery dinner series Sept. 29 with a five-course menu paired with sour beers from New Belgium; cost is $80 (includes tax and tip).
– Advance tickets for the Inland Northwest Craft Beer Festival , coming Oct.2-3 at Avista Stadium, are available for $20 per day at Big Barn, English Setter, Hopped Up, Iron Goat and the Steam Plant, as well as Ten Pin in Moses Lake and Top Frog in Newport. That’s a $5 savings off the price at the gate.
– Pullman’s Paradise Creek ran into flavor issues with the seasonal Arc Flash India Session Ale that had been scheduled for release Monday, but has brewed a second batch and is tinkering with the first in hopes of getting it on tap soon.
– Yakima’s Bale Breaker, a recent addition to the Inland Northwest Ale Trail , is one of 30 breweries from around the country that will be featured in Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp Across America collaboration 12-packs next year.
– No-Li announced it has raised $21,000 for local charities over the past year, through special events and its regular donations of $2 from each taster tray sold to a designated charity each month.
– Finally, a mere four days away from fall, we have our first winter/holiday beer sighting of the season: Deschutes’ Jubelale . Part of the fun is checking out the new label artwork each year, and the woodsy, wintry riverside scene from Bend’s Taylor Rose doesn’t disappoint (extra props for the dog).
