Obituary: Gibbons, Lucille Margaret Lacasse

Age 91

GIBBONS, Lucille Margaret (LaCasse) Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lucille, pass- ed away early Saturday morning, September 12, 2015.

Lucille was born in Missoula, MT to Alyre Joseph and Clara Dussault LaCasse on December 10, 1923.

She grew up in Montana and spoke of frequent trips to her uncles’ dairy farm and the family sheep ranch in Ronan, MT.

Lucille graduated from Kinman Business University in Spokane in 1942 and went to work as a civilian for the Air Force, Air Depot Base in Spokane.

She married the love of her life, Sergeant Leo T. Gibbons, on December 16, 1943, in Missoula during a short furlough from his station in Presque Isle, Maine.

We take comfort in knowing that since Leo’s passing in March of 2010, after just over five years apart, they are reunited, along with their first grandson, Colin Masury and son, Kenneth Leo.

Lucille moved to Portland, OR in 1969, and except for four years living in Waynesboro, Mississippi in the early 1970’s, lived the rest of her life in the Portland area.

Traditions were important to her and many looked forward to her homemade Christmas candy every year.

She is survived by her eight children: Teresa (David), Dolores (Milton), Paul (Dana), Elaine (Clarke), Colleen (Stuart, deceased), Kelly (Bill), Kerrin (Dave) and Laurie (Brian); five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Christopher (Tanasia, and son Wilson Finley), Ryan (Laura, and daughters, Claire and Samantha), Stacey, Derrick and Shannon; and her brothers, Kenneth (Rose) and Robert (Deidre).

We are grateful for the caring attention provided by the staff at Mary’s Woods during her stay at the Residential Care facility, particularly in her final days, as well as hospice, especially the harpists who came to her room and played the classical music mom loved so much.

As we engaged hospice we had occasion to answer the question: “Tell us about your mom”: In the last weeks of her life, her favorite meal was chocolate chip mint ice cream and potato chips; family and faith are the most important things in her life; she knows one French nursery rhyme and sang it at her 90th birthday party; cooking and baking were her passions and gifts she bequeathed to all.

She played the piano, loved jazz and classical music and any story involving a child could make her smile.

Memorial Service to be held on Friday, September 25, 2015, 11:00a.m.
