Sunday rum day
A new series of Storied Sips classes are scheduled for fall.
Each class runs from 1 to 6 p.m. on a Sunday and covers a different booze-related topic. This Sunday’s topic is New World Rum to Tiki Bars.
It starts at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Browne’s Addition for three hours of lecture, discussion and bitters making. Then participants will head to Durkin’s Liquor Bar in downtown Spokane for a field study for the final two hours. Bartender Kristi Gamble will teach bartending techniques, and there will be time to sample the rum cocktails students learned about in class.
Class is taught by Renee Cebula, a local historian and owner of Raising the Bar , a mobile barware shop. The cost is $70 with a 10 percent discount for museum members. Register online , via phone, or at the museum.
And plan ahead. The other classes are:
- Oct. 11: Prohibition
- Nov. 8: Savory Winter Cocktails and Hot Toddies
