Vintage Mince Meat Recipe from Dorothy Dean
Linda Young of Spokane found this letter in her mother’s cookbook. It was typed on Spokesman-Review letterhead and addressed to Young’s grandmother, Mrs. P.J. Lamey in Tekoa, in September 1935, about a month before the official launch of the Dorothy Dean Homemakers Service.
The Spokesman-Review is celebrating 80 years since the launch of the popular home economics department in October by asking readers to share old favorite Dorothy Dean recipes. Dorothy Dean was the pseudonym for the editors and writers who worked for the old food section.
“I know most people don’t even know what Mince Meat is, but I thought this recipe from the first year of Dorothy Dean was relevant to your commemoration,” Young wrote.
Too Many Cooks agreed, and that’s why we’re sharing it here.
Cheers!
