Obituary: Penaluna, Marlys Mae (Frank)

Age 81

PENALUNA,
Marlys Mae
(Frank)
(Age 81)

Went home to be with her husband and our Lord on April 4, 2016.

Marlys was born December 9, 1934 in Parshall, ND to Art and Hazel Frank.

She graduated from high school at Fargo, ND and married Richard Penaluna in 1953.

They moved to Spokane, WA in 1959.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for Casey’s Inc. until 1980 when she was stricken with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis.

She was a devoted member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 30 years and transferred to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in 1992.

She was an active member for 30 years plus of the Buttons & Bows Square Dance Club also Square Wheelers International and Jacks & Jenny’s.

Also a longtime member of the Orchard Prairie Bible Study Group.

She enjoyed working in many charities and caring for others.

Marlys enjoyed life from the simplicity of sewing, gardening and swimming to her more extravagant explorations of the world.

She believed in and generated true faith and guidance from the Lord, always exhibiting strength and a smile.

She was stubborn in holding her family together and a rock for which so many people became able to depend on for leaning.
Her favorite verse was PSALM 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Marlys lived her life that way, she knew it was her true purpose to guide others to him anyway she could.

She held her family and friends dear to her heart; little did she know she exposed many to the opportunity to live life in his hands.

At age 79 she was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease and that couldn’t even defeat the strength she had.

She continued to live with the Holy Spirit and Lords desires in her heart until her Heavenly Father called her home.

Just one week after the passing of her husband of almost 63 years.

Marlys was a dedicated Christ follower, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

She was preceded in death by a son Gary and her husband Richard.

She is survived by sons Rick and Randy; daughter-in-law Lauri; grandchildren, Adria McGee, Ryan Penaluna, Rana, Tiffany and Brody Penaluna; eight great-grandchildren; sister Beulah Hillstrom; many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service to be held Saturday, April 23, 10am, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Hospice of Spokane.
