Age 93


SONGAYLO, Betty

Passed away at Hospice House South on Thursday, April 14, 2016.

She was born in Spokane on November 13, 1922, to parents Francis and Lena Thurmon and lived in Hayford, WA for most of her 93 years.

Betty attended Hayford School and graduated from Cheney High School in 1940.

Following high school, she attended Kelsey Baird College in Spokane, and worked at Fairchild Air Force Base.

She met her husband, Ray, at Fairchild and they married on March 5, 1946.

They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996.

She is survived by daughter Debra (Roger) Morris, son Vincent Songaylo, grandson Seth Morris, niece Susan (Mel) Detmer, and dear friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ray, parents Francis and Lena, two brothers, Glenn Thurmon and Jake Thurmon, and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was a dedicated homemaker, known for her love of baking - especially Christmas cookies.

She loved gardening, watching sports, picking huckleberries, canning, and embroidery.

A longtime member of Hayford Community Church, Betty served as pianist and treasurer for many years.

Together, she and Ray enjoyed square dancing, bowling, serving on the Hayford PTA, playing pinochle, and creating a home in Hayford.

A private burial service will be held on Monday, April 18th.
