Coeur d’Alene contemplates park memorial for fallen officer

From staff reports

Coeur d’Alene city leaders will look at adding a large water feature downtown in McEuen Park in memory of Sgt. Greg Moore, the city officer shot and killed almost one year ago.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Commission and its General Services Commission both endorsed the proposal, which would cost an estimated $750,000 and be funded through community donations. The City Council will be asked to approve the plan as well.

A proposed site plan for the memorial, near the park’s Fourth Street entrance, shows three falls, named Respect, Honor and Remember, below a stream named the Thin Blue Line, an emblem of law enforcement. Landscaping would include trees, grasses and seating areas.

The original redesign for McEuen Park included a fountain, but it wasn’t built due to budget cuts.

Fundraising for the memorial will be known as the K27 Campaign after Moore’s call sign.

Moore was shot while on duty early in the morning of May 5, 2015, and died later that day.

On Thursday, the anniversary of his death, the Coeur d’Alene Police Department will remember Moore in a ceremony at 3 p.m. at the Fallen Heroes Plaza at Cherry Hill Park.
