Beer pairings

The Elk Public House and Moon Time are getting beers of their own.

White Hart Lager is being brewed by Ninkasi as a regular house beer for the Elk, while Georgetown has produced a Moon Time Lake Beer in honor of the Coeur d’Alene pub’s 20th anniversary.

Both will be pouring at the Elkfest music festival Friday through Sunday at The Elk.

White Hart, named after one of the English pub signs hanging on the Elk’s walls, is based on Ninkasi’s Helles Belles light Munich-style lager. It will be a fixture at the Elk and also served regularly at its sister establishments, which include The Two Seven and Geno’s in Spokane and The Porch in Hayden Lake along with Moon Time, said Marshall Powell, general manager for the restaurants.

Moon Time Lake Beer is an easy-drinking blonde ale at 5.2 percent alcohol by volume. It’s brewed with wheat and corn grits (which lighten the body) and hopped with spicy Summit, Saaz and Crystal.

There’s a single 15-barrel batch, with those 30 kegs being divided among the Washington and Idaho locations, Powell said.

Moon Time will celebrate its anniversary July 9 with a parking lot party along the lines of Elkfest, featuring bands and barbecue.
