Officer body camera rollout begins in Boise

Associated Press

BOISE – The Boise Police Department is providing officers with body cameras.

KTVB-TV reported the department issued its first 30 cameras to supervisors and the night police team on Wednesday. The department is planning a staggered rollout of its 250 cameras.

Boise police said it will be about a year before all cameras hit the streets. Police Chief Bill Bones said the department wants to test the cameras on a limited number of officers and fix any problems before they are distributed to the entire force.

The department’s roughly 300 officers already carry audio recorders.

Bones said that once all cameras are assigned, any officer in uniform will be using one. The cameras will be turned on during traffic stops, arrests and other active investigations.
