CLINTON, La. – A Louisiana woman has been reunited with her daughter after sending the 11-year-old girl to school with a note suggesting the mother was being held against her will by her boyfriend, authorities said.

East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis said the local school superintendent contacted his office Tuesday morning after the girl arrived at East Feliciana Middle School in Clinton and handed her mother’s handwritten note to a school official.

“She implied in the note that she was being held against her will and needed help,” Travis said.

Officers found the mother unharmed at a mobile home and arrested her boyfriend, 27-year-old Donald Ray Guy, after finding him hiding in a closet.

The woman had been scared to leave the home, which is in a rural area, and didn’t have access to a car there, the sheriff said.

“I know she was relieved to get out of that situation,” said Travis, who declined to release a copy of the woman’s note.

Guy’s mother and grandmother also were inside the home when deputies arrested Guy. Nobody was hurt, according to Travis.

Travis said the girl seemed to be in “very good spirits” when she was reunited with her mother after school.

“She’s a sweet little kid,” he added.

Guy was jailed on charges of domestic abuse battery and false imprisonment. He also had outstanding warrants on charges of aggravated battery and domestic abuse battery.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Guy has an attorney.
