Triple-barreled

There’s plenty for barrel-aged beer fans to soak up at a trio of local events this weekend:

– Twelve String’s third annual BarrelFest on Sunday from noon to 5 will feature some 16 of the Spokane Valley brewery’s many wood-aged offerings.

While the beer list isn’t available in advance, owner/brewer Terry Hackler says it will include old favorites along with newer wrinkles like the bourbon barrel-aged Double Drop D Chocolate Stout that debuted at this year’s Inland Northwest Craft Beer Festival, and a brand-new bourbon barrel-aged Blackberry Porter.

The event is expected to again be jam-packed. Whatever’s on the menu, Hackler says, “People love trying all of these oddball creations.”

As usual, all will be available in five-ounce pours for $3 each. The CRATE food truck will be on hand this time to help you soak up all the alcohol.

– Mad Bomber celebrates its third anniversary Saturday with its third edition of Black Hand, a barrel-aged imperial porter that clocks in at 11 percent alcohol by volume. This year’s version was aged in honey bourbon barrels from Up North Distillery in Post Falls, which just marked its own first anniversary.

The party at the Hayden brewery, which starts at 11 a.m., also will feature a shotgun raffle and barbecue by Blue Smoke.

– The annual Stone Brewing event Saturday starting at 3 p.m. at Pints Alehouse will feature the 2014 Oaked Arrogant Bastard, 2015 w00tstout and two versions of this year’s Ruination 2.0 double IPA – with oak, and with orange peel and vanilla beans – on draft along with the California brewery’s 2013 Imperial Russian Stout, 2014 Old Guardian barleywine, 2015 Double Bastard, 2015 Xocoveza spiced mocha stout and anniversary IPA releases from years five, 10, 15 and 20 (2001 through 2016).

You also can get sample pours of four bottled, barrel-aged beers: Xocoveza Charred, Southern Charred Double Bastard, Double Bastard in the Rye and Winter Harvest Belgian-style golden ale.

– And throughout November, Crafted Tap House is pouring rotating kegs of two dozen hard-to-find barrel-aged beers including the likes of Firestone Walker’s Stickee Monkee quad, Mikkeller’s Mango Sour and the 2014 and 2015 vintages of Fremont’s B-Bomb (barreled Abominable winter ale).
