Your weekly roundup
Catching up with more news from a busy week in local craft beer:
– No-Li is introducing two new bottled beers next week, its latest seasonal and another limited-release specialty.
Red, White & No-Li Pale (6.1 percent alcohol by volume, 35 International Bitterness Units), the brewery’s new fall/winter offering, honors the men and women of Fairchild Air Force Base. It’s an easy-drinking, clean-finishing golden ale with a fruity flavor and aroma from Citra hops (which led to the nickname “Fruity Pebbles” around the brewery). Look for it in 22-ounce bottles as well as draft.
No-Li also is bottling its usual pub draft amber ale as Chinese Lantern Festival Amber (5.1, 15), in conjunction with the event returning to Riverfront Park for a second year beginning next Friday. The 60-case run will be available at select stores including Rosauers, Yoke’s and Total Wine.
– More reports from the fresh-hop front: Black Label is readying one with homegrown Chinook hops along with regular Citra over a Maris Otter malt base, while New Boundary is collecting Chinook and other varieties from customers, Post Falls Brewing has an Amarillo on the way and Waddell’s is using a mystery hop growing at a family farm in Wilbur.
And Iron Goat, which today collected a record 122 pounds for its annual Spo-Hop community-sourced offering, is doing three more with commercial fresh hops: a Simcoe sour, Citra/Mosaic IPA and Palisade pale.
– Bennidito’s and Young Buck are the latest local additions to the Inland Northwest Craft Beer Festival , returning to Avista Stadium Sept. 23-24. That brings the number of participating breweries to 42, up from last year’s 30.
– Perry Street, which holds its third annual Oktoberfest Sept. 22-23, is pre-selling this year’s custom 32-ounce steins for $25, which also includes a souvenir soccer scarf and entry into the Golden Stein raffle (for a free fill each day in October). Stein holders get $8 fills of German-style beers (Oktoberfest, pilsner, hefeweizen) during the event and $10 fills of other styles; steins from the past two years also will be honored.
– Laughing Dog’s pilsner is being sold for Seattle Seahawks games at CenturyLink Field this season, the only area brewery to make the cut.
– Selkirk Abbey is starting to identify the barrels to be used for this year’s Cuvée De La Nuít Profonde , a reprise of last winter’s blended Belgian-style strong dark.
– And finally, Spokane newcomer Four-Eyed Guys is in the final licensing stages for its new warehouse location at 3023 E. Trent. The brewery will begin as a distribution-only operation.
