Ridpath building downtown evacuated due to smoking heating unit

The Ridpath building downtown was evacuated after a heater in an apartment began smoking at about 4 p.m. Friday.

No one was injured. Sprague Avenue was blocked near the building, at 515 W. Sprague Ave., for more than an hour.

A similar incident occurred on Dec. 12, when a heating unit spewed smoke into the building, forcing an evacuation.
