Body found in overturned kayak on Long Lake

A marine unit and dive team members of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office discovered the body of a deceased kayaker on Long Lake in the area of the Nine Mile Boat Launch on Saturday morning.

An initial report of the overturned kayak, with a man’s body inside, was made about 5:15 a.m. The marine patrol unit and dive team responded, along with Spokane County sheriff’s deputies, Fire District 9 and the Spokane Fire Department.

Preliminary investigations showed “the decedent was not wearing a life jacket and the kayak appeared to be overloaded,” according to a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The Spokane County medical examiner will release the identity of the deceased man at a later date.
