SALT LAKE CITY – Lucas Knowles pitched into the seventh inning and Willie MacIver drove in two runs Thursday as Washington defeated Utah 6-4 in to move into third place in Pac-12 Conference baseball.

Knowles (4-5) allowed four hits and two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking none.

MacIver broke a scoreless tie with an RBI double during a three-run fifth. He added an RBI single in the sixth for a 4-1 lead.

UW’s AJ Graffanino finished 2 for 3 with two runs, both times scoring on MacIver’s hits. The Huskies’ Joe Wainhouse hit his 12th homer of the season, a solo shot to center field in the eighth.

The Huskies (26-22, 16-9) moved past idle UCLA (15-9 Pac-12) into third place, 2 1/2 games behind first-place Stanford (18-6 Pac-12). Stanford hosts Washington State (15-28-1, 7-16-1) in a three-game series starting Friday.

Washington and Utah (14-36, 6-19) also play Friday and Saturday. The Pac-12 regular season ends next weekend.
