Prep baseball: Peyton McPherson strikes out eight and Cheney holds off Sunnyside

Cheney 8, Sunnyside 7: Peyton McPherson struck out eight over five innings and the visiting Blackhawks (11-3) held off the Grizzlies (0-11) in a nonleague game on Monday.

Luke Martin went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs while Van Vega added three hits and a run for Cheney. Sunnyside scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh before the rally stalled.

Kettle Falls 14, Liberty 6: Matt Thompson went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and the Bulldogs (5-7) beat the visiting Lancers (6-9) in a nonleague game.

Idaho

Sandpoint 1-10, Timberlake 4-4: The visiting Bulldogs (7-13) split a nonleague doubleheader with the Tigers (12-7).

St. Maries 11-8, Grangeville 1-4: The visiting Lumberjacks (7-3, 4-2) swept the Bulldogs (9-6, 3-3) in a Central Idaho 2A league doubleheader. St. Maries will host the district tournament May 6-7.
